Finding Joy, Beauty, and Purpose at the Salvage & Style Gala
On a beautiful evening in November, the design community came together for Salvage & Style, Make It Home Bay Area’s annual fundraiser. This year’s event was one for the record books. They raised over $400,000 to support their mission of furnishing homes for families coming out of crisis.
The gala also served as a housewarming for their new permanent home. Guests were treated to a seated dinner, specialty cocktails, and both live and silent auctions. The event was hosted by Emmy Award-winning personality Liam Mayclem, known throughout the Bay Area for Eye on the Bay.
The standout moment of the night? The designer tablescapes.
Make It Home invited some of San Francisco’s top designers to create one-of-a-kind tables using only items from the nonprofit’s furniture warehouse. These secondhand finds were transformed into incredible works of art. Each table reflected joy, creativity, and the kind of abundance that can only come from resourcefulness and vision.
Our own Eva Klein designed a table titled “More is More”, a lively and layered nod to one of her favorite designers Tony Duquette. Inspired by Duquette’s fearless opulence and the balance of Asian design, More is More celebrated bold layering, rich textures, and unexpected harmony. The table proved that maximalism done right can feel both dramatic and refined. Her tablescape took center stage and captured everything we love about design at Loczi. Bold color, thoughtful detail, and storytelling through objects.
Why We Show Up
Being a designer means constantly generating ideas, solving problems, and making things beautiful. It also means giving a lot of yourself. Sometimes, especially after a long season of projects, you start to wonder if it all matters.
Events like this one are the reminder. They refill the tank. They remind us that great design isn't just about perfect finishes. It’s about impact. It’s about seeing potential where others might see a pile of old furniture and helping that potential come to life. It’s about bringing comfort, joy, and dignity into someone’s home — whether it’s a mansion in Marin or a first apartment with hand-me-down chairs and a borrowed bedframe.
This is why we do what we do.
Make it Home
Founded by Carolyn Flannery (seen on the right), Make It Home is Northern California’s only furniture bank. They take donated furniture and home goods and give them to individuals and families transitioning out of crisis. They work with designers, volunteers, and social service agencies to make sure every home they touch feels safe and welcoming.
